新しいステップ：希望と不安
四月になり、進級して上級生になる子もいれば、小学校を卒業して中学生になる子もいます。新学期はクラスも変わったり、
仲の良かったクラスメイトと離れ離れになったり、環境も大きく変わるので、心のバランスも不安定になりがちで、悩みを抱える子供も大勢います。

学習のハンデ
ハッピーハウスに来る子供たちも、ポツポツと悩みをこぼします。勉強も難しくなります。特に中学生になると、
新しい科目の英語が始まります。英語は受験でも、その後の人生でも、必要となってくるいわば一生ものの科目です。
裕福な家庭の子供たちは一年生のうちから塾に通い詰め、念入りに準備をしますが、そうでない子供たちは経済的に恵まれないというだけで、学習面でもハンデを負ってしまいます。

※文部科学省の「平成26年度子供の学習費調査」によれば、
　約7割が学校以外の場所での活動によって、
　学習の差を生み出しているとの発表があります。

※独立社団法人“Chance for Children”は、この学習格差と、
　貧困の連鎖を比較し、寄付を募る活動をされています。
　
子どもたちの不安とサポート
自主的に勉強すると言っても、ゲームやテレビなどの誘惑が多く、そんなことできるはずもありません。子供たちには、学習をサポートして見守る大人が必要なのです。家が貧しいと子供がよりよい教育を受けられず、その子供も将来貧困に陥ってしまうという、いわゆる※「貧困の連鎖」は、現在日本では大きな問題となっています。

厚生労働省の調査によれば、生活保護世帯のおよそ4割が、出身世帯でも生活保護経験をもっているそうです。

子ども達を見守る重要性
私たちスタッフは、子供たちの勉強への取り組みを見守り、サポートすることで、彼らの学習面でのハンディキャップを補うことができるよう努めています。

厚生労働省の言葉では、「生活保護世帯の子どもが、大人になって再び生活保護を受給するというケース」。

New Step: Hope and Anxiety
In April, some of the children will graduate from elementary school and move on to junior high school.
This new environment may cause trouble for some students.
Classes will change, they’ll be separated from close friends, and, for some, this can cause some mental struggles.

Learning Difficulties
The children who come to Happy House experience such troubles.
Studying is also difficult of these junior high school students as they are introduced to a new subject, English.

Whether you are taking an exam or using it later in life, It is a subject that is quite necessary.
Children from wealthy families are sent to cram schools starting in first grade and are taught to prepare carefully.

Though these children may struggle, it is the children whose parents can’t afford cram schools, that are more likely to have difficulties.

* According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s 2014 Survey on Child Learning Costs,Approx. 70% is due to activities outside the school,
There is a correlation that it extracurricular activities create differences in learning.

We are doing activities to raise donations by comparing chains of poverty.

Children’s Anxiety and Support
Even if you say you can study independently,
There are many temptations such as games and TV,
That makes it difficult to focus.
Children need adults who support and watch over their learning.

In Japan, it is highly likely that a student from a poorer family will not succeed and that the child will fall into poverty in the future.
This aptly named “poverty chain”, is now a major problem in Japan.
According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, about 40% of welfare households are caught in that “poverty chain”.

The Importance of Supervising Children
Our staff supervises the children’s efforts to study,
Supporting their learning difficulties
We strive to make up for the lack in their life.
